Hand Tumors






Abstract
The hand is the site of great variety of tumors, many quite rare, some appearing almost
exclusively on this extremity, and still others which are common to all regions of the-body. In the hand, benign tumors are common, malignant tumors, quite rare.
For the period of 5 years from 1980 to 1985, 62 cases of hand tumors were treated surgically and the results of clinical observation were as follows:
1. In our series of 62 cases of hand tumors (soft tissue tumor, 47 cases; bone tumor, 15cases), most of them are benign (59 cases, 95%).
2. There are no demonstrable diffenences in the sex and distribution, although in slit. tissue tumor, female was predominant (about 2 times) and in bone tumor, male was predominant.
3. Of the soft tissue tumors in the hand, ganglion is most common (16 cases, 34% , followed by hemangioma (6 cases, 12%), and neurilemmoma (4 cases, 8.0%).
4. The ganglions of the hand and wrist were subdivided by clinical characteristics s dorsal wrist ganglion (6 cases, 38%), volar wrist ganglion (6 cases, 38%), volar retinacularr ganglion (3 cases, 19%) and ganglion of DIP joint (mucous cyst) (1 case, 6%).
5. Of the bone tumors in the hand, enchondroma is most common (10 cases, 67%), followed by aneurysmal bone cyst (2 cases, 13%), steochondroma (1 case, 7%) in order.
6. Among enchondroma (10 cases), there were solitary enchondroma (8 cases, 80%) a enchondromatosis (2 cases, 20%).
The predilection sites of enchondroma were phalanx (10 cases, 67%) and metacarpal !5 cases, 33%) in order.
7. Of the treatment modalities of soft tissue tumors, the most frequent one, is excisi. (41 cases, 87%).
8. Of the treatment modalities of bone tumors in the hand, the most frequent one ¢¥ curettage and bone graft (10 cases, 67%), followed by excision (3 cases, 20%).
